Structuring an answer for an 'evaluation' and 'discuss' command term question
Breaking down the 8 & 10 mark question
Look at question [d.]. The last question in the set is usually 8 or 10 marks and is the question where you can and will be earning the majority of your marks from. The most common command terms used for 8 to 10 mark questions are discuss and evaluate, both of which require a conclusion/judgement. When answering question [d.], offer a considered and balanced review that includes a range of arguments, factors or hypotheses. Opinions or conclusions should be presented clearly and supported by appropriate evidence.
Address: Address the question, understand the demands of the question, include implications, where relevant.
Explain: Provide an explanation [reasons & causes] of relevant business management tools (where applicable), techniques and theories. Apply appropriate terminology throughout your answer.
Stimulus: Effectively use the stimulus material in a way that significantly strengthens your answer.
Analysis: Provide analysis in your answer, there must be evidence of balance, provide an analysis, e.g. advantages vs. disadvantages, pro’s vs. con’s, etc. It is HIGHLY suggested that you provide at least 3 advantages, 3 disadvantages, 3pro’s, 3 con’s, etc. It is VERY helpful for you to number your advantages vs. disadvantages, pro’s vs. con’s, etc. for the examiner.
Judgement: The judgments are relevant and well substantiated.
