Creating an Anecdote
Choose a story from the book, Best Little Stories from WWI: Nearly 100 true stories by Brian Kelly and Ingrid Smyer. After you have chosen, read, and learned your story:
As a class I want to discuss:
- Develop and learn by heart a 60-second rendering of the story. You may be creative here - you don’t have to sound like or even choose the format of the telling of the story or Dan Carlin’s version
- You will then present your story in front of the class. You will tell your story by explaining your understanding of the point of view of the key historical figure(s) and that of the writer of the story
As a class I want to discuss:
- Which story struck you the most? Why?
- How does storytelling contribute to our understanding of a historical period?
- What do we notice about the role of perspective in history?
